Building a Strong Foundation — Your Mission, Vision, and Values

If you are planning to own or operate a recovery residence in New Hampshire, certification with the New Hampshire Partnership for Recovery Residences (NHPRR) is a critical step.

Certification with NHPRR means your recovery home meets New Hampshire standards for quality recovery supports, safety, and ethics. Here is a step-by-step guide of what you can expect during the certification process.

Step 1

Building a Strong Foundation — Your Mission, Vision, and Values

Building a strong foundation for Recovery is NHPRR’s mission, and certified recovery homes help carry that mission forward. When beginning the certification process, it’s vital that you reflect on your organization’s mission, vision, and values — and be prepared to speak about them clearly.

Consider the following as you prepare:

  • What population will you serve?

  • What recovery modality will the home ascribe to?

  • What types of support will be provided?

  • Have you developed a business plan?

A thoughtful foundation sets the tone for the entire certification experience.

Preparing for Certification Expectations

Step 3

Owner/Operator Orientation & Interview with NHPRR staff

  • Register for a Zoom orientation with the Certification Manager
  • During the orientation, NHPRR will review the certification process, timeframes, and standards and conduct an interview with the owner and operator.
  • Be prepared to present your mission, vision, values, business plan, and your qualifications for owning and operating a recovery residence.

Step 6

  • Upload final certification documents.*

Step 7

Site Visit and Resident Interviews

  • NHPRR conducts site visit and resident interviews.

Step 8

NHPRR Issues a Certification Decision

  • There are three possible outcomes from NHPRR’s certification decision.

Bonus Step

Register your Recovery Residence

  • Upload final certification docRegister your Recovery Residence: Registration is voluntary, but is limited to recovery houses certified by NHPRR. Recovery house operators certified by NHPRR who wish to register as a New Hampshire Recovery House can do so using the New Hampshire Recovery Housing Registration Form.

If a house is provisionally certified, there are two possible outcomes:

Certification

After addressing required action items and following NHPRR’s recommendations from the initial review, the house undergoes a second site visit that includes resident interviews. If the site visit complies with NHPRR standards, NHPRR issues full certification.

Loss of Provisional Certification

NHPRR conducts a second site visit at the end of the provisional certification term, but the home does not meet NHPRR standards. Failure to meet NPRR standards by the end of the provisional period will result in loss of provisional certification status and removal from NH’s Voluntary Recovery House Registry.
